Ramsingh, Roberts steer Media XI to victory

… GKRS remitted twice in one day
NATIONAL Communications Network’s (NCN) sales representative John Ramsingh and Guyana Chronicle’s sports reporter Calvin Roberts were the architects of a 65-run victory scored by a Combined Media XI over Grace Kennedy Remittance Service (GKRS)
Western Union Titans in a 20/20 tapeball game at the Banks DIH ground on Sunday.
Winning the toss and asking their opponents to take first strike after seeing their female counterparts go down to Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) in a 10/10 fixture, GKRS Titans could not restrain their opponents who went on to score 183 off their 20 overs, thanks to Ramsingh’s 53 (5×4, 3×6).
Stabroek News’ Marlon Munroe and Capitol News’ Esaun Griffith both scored 30, with Munroe hitting three fours and two sixes while Griffith cleared the boundary three times and touched it twice.
Guyana Chronicle’s freelance reporter and National Sports Commission 2009 Sports Reporter-of-the-Year (Print) Rawle Toney struck two maximums, with the first one landing somewhere on Mandela Avenue in his 12.
Niko Cummings and Delmar Tobin both took three wickets and received support from Paul Persaud who grabbed two for GKRS Titans, who failed to negotiate the swing and pace of Roberts, as they were remitted for 118 from 15 overs.
Roberts, who took 5-23 to redeem himself after falling for a first-ball duck, sent back the opening and number three batsmen for GKRS Titans without scoring, in the first over of their reply, before they were bowled out for 118 from 15 overs.
Despite being struck for two maximums over square leg by Jason Mohammed 19 (2×6, 1×4), he returned to pick up the final three wickets, after skipper Sean Devers (Kaieteur News) and left-arm fast bowler Kizan Brummell (Stabroek News) had rocked the middle order with two wickets each for 10 and 15 runs respectively.
GKRS Titans’ vice-captain Ishaka Jackman tried desperately to keep his team in the hunt to surpass the insurmountable target, with his pugnacious 62 which was decorated with eight fours and two maximums, but after being caught by Brummell on the midwicket fence off Griffith (1-14), Roberts returned to mop up the tail in the 15th over of the innings.
In the female encounter, GT&T batting first scored a mammoth 91-2 from their 10 overs, with Demerara wicketkeeper/batter Vicky Bacchus leading the way with an unbeaten 38 (4×4) while skipper Carlotta Lee supported with 36 which included seven fours.
GKRS Female Titans were limited to 65-3 in their 10 overs, of which Lueanna Semple 18 (1×4), Nina Benjamin 16 (2×4) and Shonell Willis (13) who took a catch at short mid-wicket when GT&T batted, were the principal scorers.
Both the GT&T female and the Combined Media teams received trophies for their victory over their respective opponents.
