ACTING Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday refused bail to Phillip Smith, 54, who is charged, indictably, with feloniously wounding his reputed wife, Roxanne Goodman. The accused, of Lot 1744 New Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, is alleged to have, on March 5, unlawfully and maliciously wounded the virtual complainant with intent to maim, disfigure or cause her grievous bodily harm.
Smith told the Court that he had been living with the victim for 23 years before they recently separated.
He said, when their mother sends their child to live with him, they would steal things from his house and give her and, the day of the incident, Goodman and his daughter were at a bus park but she pushed him away when he made a failed attempt to see what the girl had in her bag.
Later that evening, Smith said Goodman and a group ventured into his yard and he overheard her telling the other people to kill him but he remained inside.
Smith said, the next day, the anger was boiling up inside him and he went to the virtual complainant’s workplace and chopped her on the head and right hand.
He was remanded to prison until April 7.
