Eldeca Hector scores 100 not out

ANOTHER Guyanese centenarian, Mrs. Eldeca Hector celebrated her 100th birthday on Wednesday, with a church service at Parmabel Community Hall, Bachelor’s Adventure and family get together.
Living at her niece’s Lot 126 Cummings Street, Buxton home, also on East Coast Demerara, she was her usual jovial self when the Guyana Chronicle visited.

She was doing her favourite things, singing hymns and asking a lot of questions while waiting to go to Bachelor’s Adventure, where she was born, for the 15:00 hours religious worship.
She had grown up in a house where religion was practised and went to church regularly, as did all her nieces and nephews, for whom she cared while doing handicraft for a living.
Described as a caring person, Eldeca married twice and bore two children but they both have passed away.
Although deaf in one ear, she reads the daily newspapers and walks around unsupported, despite some pains.
Like the average grandmother, she is quite aware of what is happening around her, including a bit of gossip.
She is not too fussy about food but likes ground provisions, rice and fruit juices.
A staunch Christian, she said God gave her long life and she is thankful for the years she has been gifted, though conscious that death is inevitable.
Her great nephew, Mr. Julian Anderson said he grew up with her after his mother died and she is like his mother.
He said the family had to do something to mark the milestone and knew that going to church would please her.
