Husbands remanded for Valentine time assault, wounding

ANDREW Rupnarain, 31, of Lot 117 Sideline Dam, La Penitence, Georgetown, was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge of unlawfully assaulting his wife, Aneica Rupnarain.
Before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson,
the defendant pleaded guilty, admitting that he committed the February 15 offence.
He said he had gone out on Valentine’s Night and returned home under the influence of alcohol when the virtual complainant told him to sleep in his motor car and he became annoyed.
The defendant maintained he did not hit the woman but just misbehaved because he was intoxicated.
However, his wife said, because of his behaviour, she threw some water on him and, in his rage, he declared he would show her who is man.
She said he asked her if she does not read in the newspapers what men do to women.
The woman said she does not want her husband anymore because he has a drinking problem.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said the defendant will also face a charge of threatening to burn their house, when he returns to Court today.
Another husband, Tundy Trotman, 30, will return to Court on February 24, for sentencing, after being convicted of unlawfully wounding his reputed wife, Nicola Venezuela.
He pleaded guilty to the February 13 offence in the same Court but his sentence was postponed pending a probation report on his background.
Until then, he was remanded to prison, after admitting that he wounded the virtual complainant so as to cause her actual bodily harm.
The defendant told the Court he had gone home after work and saw his wife talking on her mobile phone and he did not give her a Valentine rose he bought for her because an argument arose between them, after he attempted to ascertain to whom she was speaking.
Venezuela admitted telling Trotman the other person on the phone was a man and he hit her when she told him it was none of his business.
“I want him out of my house and my life, Your Worship,” Venezuela said to the magistrate.
