Whose pen?
HAVE you lost a gray ‘Parker 51’ pen with a rolled-gold cover?
And did you have the name ‘N Ali’ written on it? Then you may be of material assistance to the Police at Brickdam.
The latter now have the pen in their possession, and they feel the owner can assist them with investigations now being carried out over a certain matter.

Train from Burma
RESIDENTS of the Mahaicony-Abary Development Scheme (MARDS) want the 5:30am East Coast train to start at Burma instead of Mahaicony.
The request has been made to the General Manager of the Transport and Harbours Department by Mr. Reggie Headley, branch secretary of the MPCA.
A request was previously made to the Department, but after a survey, it was discovered that it would not be economic.
The residents are asking that another survey be made.
They pointed out that such a service would be of great benefit to the people there.

Tenants association formed

A TENANTS Association was formed at Farm, East Bank Demerara on Friday last.
The meeting to launch the new body was well attended and presided over by Mr. GL Bunbury, Personnel Officer of the District.
Mr. Bunbury made it clear that it was very much the desire of the Committee, notwithstanding the Marshall Report, to continue in its efforts in preparing the stage for the people of the district to form a working community.
It was the beginning of a campaign for better living, and plans to build a Consumers Co-operative Society were circulated, he added.
There were already two such societies on the East Bank, and there was still a great need for a third.
The election of the office bearers resulted as follows: Messrs. G Newman (Chairman); Felix A Eastman (Vice-Chairman); Ramotar (Secretary). Committee members: Messrs Edwin Khan, David Mangar, Azmat Khan, Joseph Ghewan, Abdool Hamid, Harold Sookhoo, A Majeed, Rooplall, and Hasmat.

‘Rajah’ Boland sentenced to death, appeal

-Women trampled, Police draw batons on mob
SO Boysie Singh, ‘The Rajah’, twice convicted murderer, and Boland Ramkissoon, lover of Thelma Haynes, are sentenced to die for the murder of the Guianese ex-dancer.

And Trinidad has had eighteen days of the suspense and drama of a sensational murder trial as a prelude to its Carnival.
For days, few in this new-born capital of the West Indies have talked about anything else.
Would they die? How could you convict without a body — for the body of Thelma Haynes, the Guianese dancer last seen on July 30, 1956, had never been found. No such murder charge had ever been laid in Trinidad.
Today, twenty-four hours after the verdict of guilty,  it was announced that both men have decided to appeal.
