A Thanksgiving and Appreciation Service for the late CO Richards will be held at Citadel Headquarters, South Road and Alexander Streets, after which her body will be interred at Le Repentir Cemetery.

A mother of four and stalwart within the ranks of the Salvation Army for more than 50 years, the death of Mrs. Richards has dealt a devastating blow to her family, the Salvation Army and all those whose lives she has touched through the years.

She died exactly two months and nine days after the passing of her husband, Corps Officer Edward Richards, also known as Captain Richards who died on November 14, 2009.

At the time of her death, Mrs. Richards was Corps Officer with responsibility for the East Street/Queenstown Corps and Home League, a position in which she served for more than 30 years. Prior to being transferred to that Corps, the two served in the Albouystown Corps.

With a passion for the work of the Salvation Army, Mrs. Richards, to the time of her death, zestfully engaged in and contributed to its spiritual and humanitarian programmes. She was preparing to participate in the marathon ‘Mother-to-Mother’ Walkathon to raise funds and other resources for the Mothers of Haiti on January 24, but fell ill the night before.

Mrs. Richards is survived by her four children; Jessica, Deborah, Winifred and Sherwin, several grandchildren and other relatives.
