Previously there was a problem of accessibility to Port-au-Prince in Haiti, as main roads were blocked and there was a shortage of fuel and heavy machinery to clear up debris, a situation that resulted in problems for persons coming in to bring contributions.
Ramsarup said that the shipment which will make a stopover at Trinidad is expected to reach Haiti in approximately 14 days. He said that relief efforts will continue as long as necessary. The Guyana Haiti Relief Fund is now at $258M, he said.
The supplies scheduled to leave are three containers of rice, two containers of water from International Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), two containers of water from Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), one container of food items from Beharry and three containers of clothing and other items.
Marketing Director of John Fernandes Ltd., Bernie Fernandes said that the company is providing their services free of charge for shipping out the containers.
