NARESH Jaffar, 40, was sent to prison for four days, last Friday, after he pleaded guilty, last Friday, to slapping his wife, Sabita Nowraj, four times at their Chesney, Corentyne, home on January 21.
The prisoner told Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, at New Amsterdam Court, also in Berbice, that the virtual complainant is in the habit of cursing him whenever she returns to the house.
He said, on the day he slapped her, Nowraj had returned home with their son and an argument arose between the couple.
The woman, in turn, complained that her husband would repeatedly hit her and had been previously charged with related offences because of his attitude towards her.
When she said he had attempted to lash her with a spade, Jaffar said he was mixing stuff to concrete their yard.
