Red Dragon disclaims involvement with Robb Street shooting

The owners and operators of the Red Dragon Nigh Club at 53 Robb Street, Raymond Alli, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Lenray’s Investment, yesterday asked that several sections of the media report the correct story following a shooting incident in Robb Street.

A press release said newspaper and television reports that surfaced over the weekend about a fatal shooting that occurred early Saturday morning kept referring to the incident as the “Red Dragon Shooting”.

It said, the front page headline in the Kaieteur News Saturday January 9 says “Man gunned down outside Red Dragon” and their Sunday front page headline labels it the “Red Dragon shooting”.

Meanwhile, the Stabroek News of Saturday January 9 claims “Weekes and a group had just left the entertainment spot when the incident occurred.”

Kaieteur News reports it differently in their Sunday issue – “Weekes arrived at the Red Dragon and had just emerged from his car when a lone gunman came up to him and opened fire”.

Red Dragon said they would like to make it clear that at no time at all on either Friday night or Saturday morning did Mr. Weekes enter the Red Dragon Club nor was he even seen in front of the Club’s premises.

The release added that Mr. Weekes was shot in front of Mohamed’s Enterprise of 83 Robb Street, located on the southern side of the road and his body was found in a drain in front of the business enterprise.

Over the years, the Red Dragon has offered its patrons full security and has in place security checks for anyone entering the premises. There has been a single unsavoury incident over the period of four years of existence, the statement said.

“We are therefore requesting the media houses to publish as prominently as their headlines of the weekend our disclaimer of any involvement in this incident and to refrain from associating our Club’s name with the incident, the release said.”

Vibert Weekes, 28, of Harpy Drive, North East La Penitence, Georgetown, the owner of Vibey’s Pool Shop and Car Rental, was shot and killed when a lone gunman riddled him with bullets on Robb Street, Georgetown, on Saturday morning.

Police yesterday reported that at about midnight Weekes had just exited his motor vehicle when he was confronted by a gunman who discharged a number of rounds which struck him about the body.

Weekes was taken to the Woodlands Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.Weekes was laid to rest yesterday according to Muslim rites.
