The Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) has responded to an article appearing in the Sunday, January 10th edition of the Stabroek News.
The news item titled – “Skeldon Factory still not receiving sufficient cane”, highlights several operational problems at the modern facility in Region 6.
“GuySuCo wishes to state that it is continuing to work closely with the contractor of the project to address all operational issues of the new factory,” a release from the sugar company said yesterday.
“We wish to remind that the project is still in the defects liability stage, and the Corporation remains committed to ensuring that all concerns, as they arise, are highlighted and addressed in the shortest possible time.
“During this period, a number of ideas for the improvement in equipment for the future sustainability of the facility have been offered and we are engaging the contractor with an aim of having the viable suggestions brought on board.
“With regard to achieving the full cane supply for the factory, the Corporation wishes to restate that it is confident the target of 2011 will be realised.
“This is as a result of intense field work by both the Corporation and private cane farmers, especially during the dry spell in the 2nd half of 2009.
“All of our work plans are geared towards continuing this intensive development programme in 2010,” the release concluded.
