Minister of Housing and Water, Mr. Irfaan Ali

My New Year resolution would be to see Guyanese continuously having a better standard of living, to see that our people continue to work together in harmony, to see that our people enjoy in a very equitable and just way, the numerous developments that the Government is embarking on and to see many more Guyanese returning back home, where I think they have a better contribution to make, where we have shown that we have a good stable economic climate; to see that our country continues to have the international publicity it has gained by His Excellency’s strong commitment to climate change, and to see the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) being implemented completely, and Guyana benefit from the numerous positives that can come out of this strategy.

I would also like to see a more responsible opposition in the way they address national issues and policies. We have to move away from this narrow-minded approach to national development. We need to have a more responsive opposition that is integrally involving themselves in national development and they should move away from petty politics.

For the water and housing sector, we would like to see a larger number of applications being processed and to see that we can accomplish the 17,000 house lots goal, and our people having a better quality and pressure and flow of water.

These will be highly desirable and if we can achieve this, I think I would have gotten a lot of my wishes for 2010.

I would also like to see my staff at the Ministry of Housing and Water continue to show the zeal, the enthusiasm, the motivation and the commitment they have shown in 2009 as we try to implement the numerous projects ahead.

All in all, I would like to see a Guyana that continues to be peaceful, prosperous and where all of our people live in the spirit of our motto “One People, One Nation, One Destiny”.

On a personal level, there are a number of finer aspects of life that I would seek to accomplish. You know life itself is a broad spectrum of various elements so I would be focusing on improving myself to meet all the different dimension of life, to become a better person.
