Jailed burglar blames hunger

DORAJ Lala, 30, of Lot 349 Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment Wednesday, on conviction for break and enter and larceny.

Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson inflicted the custodial punishment on the prisoner after he admitted breaking into stall owned by Mahadeo Kumar and stealing weights valued $4,000.

The convict said he committed the offence because he was hungry and wanted money to buy food.

The virtual complainant, who was in Court, said he had locked up his business place but returned to it and saw the lock breached and the weights missing.
Kumar said people in the market fingered Lala.
