Police report two road fatalities at the weekend

A man is in police custody following another fatal accident at El Dorado Village Public Road, West Coast Berbice, on Sunday.

Dead is Brendel Hutson, 53, of El Dorado Village.

Police reported that at about 17:40 hours, Hutson attempted to cross the road and was struck down by an oncoming motor car. He was taken to the Mahaicony Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver of the motor car is in police custody assisting with the investigations.

In a separate accident, police said Olester Warde, 40, of Paradise, East Coast Demerara, was killed at about 01:30 hours on Saturday at Lusignan Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara.

Warde was driving his motor cycle when he collided with a horse which ran across the road. He received injuries and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police Traffic Headquarters, Eve Leary reported yesterday that for 2009, 114 persons died as a result of 95 road accidents; and for the corresponding period last year, 105 persons were killed in 93 road accidents.
