Boy, nine, dies from hanging

Police said they are investigating the death of Kadir Doodnauth, nine, of 54 Palmyra Village, East Canje, Berbice, who was found on Saturday morning hanging from a rope tied to a tree at the back of his yard.

His mother, Shameeza Doodnauth, 34, told the Guyana Chronicle that her son was with her all morning and left for a few minutes after informing her that he was going to play by the guava tree.

The grief stricken woman added that after about ten minutes had elapsed she went in search of him and saw him hanging from a canvas rope from the tree.

Ms. Doodnauth explained that the child usually plays by the guava tree and could not say where he got the piece of rope.

“He was playing with the rope and apparently tied himself to the guava tree and jumped,” she assumed.

The woman said she lifted him and placed him on the ground and realised that he was still breathing, but was unresponsive.

He as rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he succumbed about 20 minutes after while receiving medical attention.

Ms. Doodnauth told the Guyana Chronicle that a post mortem which was performed yesterday revealed that her child died as a result of asphyxiation.
Kadir will be laid to rest today.
