Four persons entered the profession of land surveying yesterday, in a swearing-in ceremony at the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission on Upper Hadfield Street, D’Urban Backlands, Georgetown.
The persons receiving certificates were Mr. Dellon Congreves, Ms. Monifa Dalymple, Mr. Romel Looknauth and Ms. Tashika Grimmond.
The candidates, who were successful at the Land Surveyors Examinations in September and October last, took an oath to practice their profession to the best of their knowledge and to do so faithfully with the greatest degree of competence, efficiency, professionalism, integrity and credibility.
Speaking at the event, Commissioner Mr. Doorga Persaud congratulated the new land surveyors, saying that pass rates in the Land Surveyors examination are generally low and that four persons passing at one sitting is remarkable.
He told the successful candidates that having been successful at the Land Surveyors examination and having been accorded the status of Sworn Land Surveyors (SLS) is only the first stage in the process of developing a career in Land Surveying as it is a professionally oriented examination and like other professional examinations, it provides the skills and techniques which should be mastered and constantly developed.
All the candidates who took the oath yesterday are currently employed at the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission and would be placed in key responsible positions under the supervision of experienced senior staff in order to complete their learning process.
