SOME 16 persons were added to the list of Qualified Sports Administrators, following the completion of the 11th Annual Sports Administrators’ Course held by the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) and sponsored by Olympic Solidarity over the weekend.
The course, which was held December 4-6 at the Linmine Constabulary Recreation Club, Mackenzie, Linden, saw 19 of the registered 22 participants attend the course, of which 16 successfully completed.
Topics included in the various presentations were: Olympic Movement and its Programmes, Sports and the Environment, HIV/AIDS and Sports, Budgeting and Money Management, Problems facing Sports in Developing Countries, Values and Ethics in Sports, Sports and the Law and Benefits of Education and Sports.
The participants were also required to undertake ‘Group Work’ assignments and at the end write a test.
The best gradating student was Nichols Fraser of the Swimming Association followed by Christine Sampson of the Athletics Association and Fiona Harris of the Bodybuilding Federation.
Chairman of Region 10, Mr Mortimer Mingo in delivering the Charge to the successful participants during the closing ceremony, advised them to return to their respective Associations/Federations with the new knowledge acquired to effect change within them and pointed out that their real work as Sports Administrators had now begun.
He thanked the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) for making a conscious effort to bring the course to the Region 10 area following a similar one in Berbice in 2007.
The Course Directors were Claude Blackmore, Garfield Wiltshire and Charles Corbin who are IOC-certified.
