Police report that about 03:10h Sunday, three armed men held up and robbed a female and two male security guards at the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) location at Hauraruni, Linden/Soesdyke Highway.

The bandits tied up the guards and took away 23 five-gallon containers of dieseline, $15,000 in cash and a cell phone and escaped in the same vehicle that the Police chased later at Madewini.

The Police had seen petrol leaking from the booth of the car and gave chase. The men exited the car and fired at the Police. There was an exchange of gun fire and the men escaped, abandoning the vehicle.

A Corporal of the Guyana Defence Force later went to the Madewini Police Outpost and reported the motor car as being stolen. However, he was arrested and under questioning confessed to having been the driver of the motor car. He is in police custody assisting with the investigations.

Police said they have lodged a motor vehicle with 23 plastic containers with dieseline, a 12 gauge shotgun with four cartridges, a pair of gloves and a camouflaged hat and poncho which were found in the vehicle.
