4R COMPANY has pledged sponsorship to a countrywide softball tournament that will be organised by the Guyana Softball League in collaboration with the Floodlight Association and will feature male and female players 40 years and over.

The male category will be called the 4R Master Cup and the female category will play an open tournament.

The competition will have cash incentives and trophies as the winners of the male Over-40 will receive $50 000 plus a massive trophy.

The runners-up will receive $20 000 and a trophy and there will also be trophies for the man-of-the-match in the final as well as for the most valuable player of the tournament.

In the female open category the winners will receive $50 000) and a trophy and the runners-up will receive $20 000 and a trophy. Several innovations have been added to the tournament to bring it in line with current international limited-overs playing conditions.

The Over-40 men will be allotted 25 overs per side and the women’s Open will have 15 overs per side. In the event of a tie a super over will be given as the tie breaker.

Entrance fees will be $5000 per male team and $2000 per female team. It was noted that the female category was introduced as a way of ensuring that the ladies play a part in the development and also to showcase the talent of those who are committed.

It was also expressed that more sponsors should come forward to sponsor tournaments that are bringing out the best talent and also keeping the nation occupied in meaningful pastimes.
