Mitchell should be honoured at the national level

IN a recent edition of the Guyana Chronicle a story was published captioned ‘Linden TC honours Mitchell for his 100 consecutive wins’. I felt real great to read this story for after many letters I wrote to the press at least one Linden agency has recognised this great achievement by this Lindener, Rudolph Mitchell.

But unfortunately, at the national level, he has not received any recognition for his achievement and I call again on President Bharrat Jagdeo, Prime Minister Sam Hinds, Minister of Sports, Dr Frank Anthony and the National Sports Commission to come forward and honour this man in a tangible way.

At the same time, I call for honours to be given to Ms Olga Harry and the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club of Soesdyke for their outstanding contributions to the development and expansion of the sport, Race Walking, in Guyana.

Had it not been for the dedication to the sports of the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club, Mitchell’s achievement would not have been a reality.

I also urge the Region 10 Regional Democratic Council, the Linden Chamber of Commerce, the Linden Tourism Association to come forward with the political parties in the town and honour Mitchell and the CSTC.

I would also like to make some suggestions which I hope could be implemented.

(1) The Linden Museum to hold exhibition of photographs and clippings on this new hero Rudolph Mitchell.

(2) For the organisers of the 20th Kashif and Shanghai Football Competition to give Mitchell a ‘lap of honour’ at the opening game at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground.

(3) For Mitchell and the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club to be awarded in the NSC Sports award.
I do hope that this letter bear some fruits.
