DAVID Summerbell of Jamaican did his nation proud when he completed his victory in the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) to claim his fourth Caribbean at Sunday’s final leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship.
Despite a less than perfect performance, which consisted of two third-place finishes and an incomplete race, he managed to consolidate his day’s total of 12 points with his previously amassed 48 points to hold onto his title.
Summerbell’s closest underling Guyana’s own Andrew King ended the day with huge leap in his points standing as he went into Sunday’s competition with 16 points and ended the day with on 42 points. King also thrilled the home crowd as he claimed victory in the day’s final event.
Stephen Vieira also came through for the home crowd as he dominated the super bike category winning all three races ahead of veteran Canadian rider Kevin Graham. In a previous interview with this publication Graham related that he has noticed Vieira’s steady improvement and it seems the youngster proved his prediction right.
While in the group four category Roger Mayers on his chariot of fire a.k.a ‘The Beast’ was the ace at the wheel. Mayers who came out of the time trial with a new lap record of 34.5 seconds completely obliterated the competition in the first of the Group 4 races.
He attributed his only loss, to local Andrew King, to a technicality in the form of tyre wear.
