At a simple ceremony held in the boardroom of GBC’s News Diamond location, managing director Robert Selman expressed his delight in partnering with the GCA once again, as they pumped over $450,000 into this year’s tournament and at the same time, stated the effective way in which last year’s tournament was held.

“I am very happy to state here today, that last year’s GCA/BUSTA 20/20 tournament was organised in an efficient and professional manner and it is with that in mind, we had no hesitation in sponsoring this year’s tournament.

I am quite sure, that the GBC is the only company which sponsors sports throughout the length and breadth of Guyana, as our sponsorships of tournaments in Bartica, Berbice, Essequibo, Wakenaam, and East Coast speak volumes to that effect” said Selman.

He continued to state, “We are not only involved in sports, but education as well and it is a privilege for us to be partnering once again with the GCA and come next year, such a relationship between the GBC and the GCA will continue.”

Selman then disclosed to the small gathering, his intentions of having a BUSTA festival which will be financed in its entirety by the GBC and involve teams from all the areas in which they have been throwing their support.

“Over the past two days, I have been toying with this idea in my mind. I even told my marketing manager about it and pretty soon, the cricket loving fans in Guyana will have the opportunity of witnessing a BUSTA cricket festival involving a select XI from the areas where we have been sponsoring cricket” said Selman.

Prior to Selman’s expressions, president of the GCA and former national Under-19 cricketer Alfred Mentore thanked the GBC for their continued support they have been giving to his association over the past two years.

“Today is another good day in the life of the GCA and cricket in general in the capital city, with BUSTA one of the premier beverage companies in Guyana, collaborating with us to fund the second edition of our 20/20 competition which is being played amongst our second division teams.

This commitment shows their genuine interest in supporting the game locally at this very important learning period or grass root level. It also signals the strong role they play as good corporate citizens especially in these crucial economic times.”

He further stated that the GCA owes the GBC a depth of gratitude and recognition, as without them the tournament would not have been a possibility and with that in mind, the GCA looks forward to their continued support in the future, which would help them fulfill its mandate of providing cricketers for the country.

The tournament which was won by the Georgetown Cricket Club GCC) last year, is set to commence on Sunday 18th October with 14 teams divided into two groups competing against each other in a round robin format, with the top two teams competing against each other in the final four.
