Local golfers square off in Demerara Mutual Medal Play tourney tomorrow

WITH the Lusignan Golf course in top shape after recent inclement weather local golfers will square off in the annual Demerara Mutual-sponsored Medal Play Golf tournament tomorrow and not the Citizens Bank tournament as was reported in yesterday’s edition of Chronicle Sport.

According to a release, there was a mix-up in the information sent to media houses on Wednesday. However, the Lusignan Golf Club yesterday stated that tomorrow’s tournament will be sponsored by Demerara Mutual and not Citizens Bank.

Meanwhile, tomorrow’s tournament will also serve as a warm-up for a local contingent who will be participating in the forthcoming RBTT Invitation championships in neighbouring Suriname.

Approximately 35 golfers are expected to in contention for the top prizes that will be up for grabs in tomorrow’s competition.

Featured in the lineup are current National Open men’s and women’s champions Imran Khan and Christine Sukhram respectively, Alfred Mentore, Avinash Persaud, Patrick Prashad, Mike Mangal, Colin Ming, Mike Guyadin, Brian Hackett, Jerome Khan, Ronald Bulkan, Lester Alvis, Ian Gouveia, Mel Sankies, Maurice Solomon, Robert Hanoman, Dr Ram Singh, Chatterpaul Deo, Gavin Todd, Mark Lashley, Carlos Adams and Chatterpaul Deo.

Prizes will be awarded to three finishers with the best net, best gross and Nearest to the Pin.

Representatives of Demerara Mutual are expected to be on hand to assist in the presentation of prizes.

Secretary of the Lusignan Golf Club, Ronald Bulkan, said that the course is in excellent condition and keen competition is expected among the players.

Tee off is at 12:30 h but players are reminded to sign up for the tournament today at the club or on telephone number 220-5660.

Meanwhile, Guyana is expected to send a large contingent to the RBTT Tournament in the neighbouring republic later this month. Already 20 players have signed up to make the trip to Paramaribo.
