Kitty, Plaisance markets register victories

KITTY Market and Plaisance Market registered victories as the Inter-Market Football Competition got under way this week.

Kitty defeated Buxton on penalty kicks while Plaisance edged Parika 2-1. Both matches were played at the GFC ground.

According to reports, on Tuesday Kitty and Buxton were locked 0-0 at the end of regulation and extra time and the match had to be decided on a penalty shoot-out which Kitty won.

Kitty scored three of their four kicks while Buxton missed all three of theirs.

On Wednesday at the same venue, Plaisance edged out Parika 2-1.

Clothing Stall Holder, Dwayne Ali scored both goals for Plaisance in the11th and 68th minutes, while Devon Dash got the lone goal for Parika.

Plaisance led 1-0 at halftime but Dash found the back of the opponents’ net in the 67th minute.

Ali then replied with a scorcher from about 40 yards from the goal.

The other scheduled game between Merriman’s Mall and Golden Grove did not materialise because neither team showed up.

On Tuesday also, defending Champions La Penitence won by a walkover from Wales who failed to show up.

The tournament continues this evening with two matches.

In the opening match which is billed for an18:00 h start, East Ruimveldt will tackle Stewartville/Leonora and at 20:00 h Bourda will confront Ann’s Grove

The first round of matches will conclude next Tuesday when Vendors’ Arcade will throw down the gauntlet to Wismar at 18:00 h and Stabroek do battle against  New Amsterdam at 20:00 h.

The first set of quarter-final matches will be played on August 13 and the second set on August 16.

The semi-finals are scheduled for August 20 and the final for August 23. The winners will take away $150 000, while the second-, third- and fourth-placed finishers will receive $100 000, $75 000 and $50 000 respectively.
