Courts Guyana Inc. Friday handed over a $270,000 cheque to the University of Guyana (UG) for its collaborative ‘Reading is Fun Programme’.

The programme will commence on August 4 and targets children between the ages of nine and 12 from Sophia, Greater Georgetown.

It will run for three weeks, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

It started in 2003 and each programme attracts more than 100 children.

The programme allows Courts to fulfill its corporate responsibility, in keeping with its mission of “Adding Value Everyday”.

Accepting the cheque, UG Vice-Chancellor Dr Lawrence Carrington expressed thanks on behalf of the university and also spoke of the importance of literacy and its impact.

Meanwhile, Courts Country Manager Lester Avis said that the furniture giant is pleased to be associated with the programme and it is their way of giving back to society.
