Pirates rob two fishermen

Police in Berbice are probing yet another armed robbery on two fishing boats off Albion on the Corentyne Wednesday night. Police said that Nazim Majeed, 36, of 185 Kilcoy Village, Corentyne, Berbice, and his crew were robbed of one 40 horsepower outboard engine, one yellow and red wooden fishing boat, a quantity of fish, one gas tank and 400lbs of nylon seine, all to the value of $1.7M.

At about 20:00h Wednesday, Majeed and his crew were approaching the Albion foreshore to moor when three masked men with ‘long guns’ appeared in another fishing boat owned by Ramnarine Permaul.

The pirates had robbed Permaul of his boat engine and personal belongings valued at $220,000.

The pirates ordered Majeed and his crew to board Permaul’s boat, while they escaped in Majeed’s boat.

The men eventually drifted ashore in Permaul’s boat and reported the matter to the police.
