A FIFTY-EIGHT-YEAR-OLD security guard, employed by BOSAI, was struck and killed by a route 43 minibus on Winifred Gaskin Road at One Mile, Wismar, Sunday morning.
The mishap occurred in the vicinity of Dele’s Night Spot when the victim, Wilton Craig was riding a bicycle on his way to work after 05:00h.
The driver of the ill-fated vehicle, Terry Da Silva said he was driving BHH 7849 and tried to avoid the cyclist riding in the opposite direction.
After hitting Craig, the bus landed in a drain some 35 yards from the point of impact, having dislocated a bridge on the opposite side of the road.
Da Silva said he had left Library Three Disco at Mackenzie where he and his wife had been since Saturday night but decided to go to their home at Lot 280 Wisrock Housing Scheme in Wismar after he could not find her (at the disco) up to 01:30 h.
The 51-year-old driver was given a breathalyser test by Police, at the scene of the accident, before being taken to Mackenzie Police Station for further investigations.
Police, in a statement last evening, revealed that the driver “was found to have been over the legal limit at the time of the accident” and he is expected to be charged with the offense when he appear in court today.

The dead man’s 18-year-old son, Ryan Craig told the Guyana Chronicle, at the scene, that he received a telephone call about the tragedy around 05:15h.
But on arrival there, he did not see his father who had already been conveyed to Mackenzie Hospital by ambulance.
Ryan Craig said his mother, Wenola Craig was preparing his father’s lunch and he was to have undertaken a 47 miles journey but abandoned it.
Mrs. Craig remembered her last conversation with her husband after she made it and he had his breakfast.
The sobbing woman said she and her son were to travel the 47 miles with their pastor when she heard her son hollering.
“I asked him what happen? He said somebody call and said Daddy get knock down but he was not certain if he is dead,” the woman recalled.
She said, when she got the dreadful confirmation of the death, she cried: “Oh God! Oh Jesus!”
The deceased and his wife had two other children, apart from Ryan, Tonia, 16 and Denzil, 13, living at Lot 51 One Mile, Wismar, too.
The guard had begun working with BOSAI six months ago, his wife said.
