CIOG condemns destruction of Ministry of Health building

THE Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) has condemned the destruction of the historic Ministry of Health building on Brickdam, Georgetown.

CIOG President Mr. Fazeel Ferouz said the destruction of the building through the use of Molotov cocktails commonly referred to as ‘channa bombs’ was a clearly and well planned criminal act of arson.

This act of arson is a blatant example of wrongdoing especially when the Ministry of Health is in the forefront of the Government’s effort of providing a well rounded programme of social services to the population of Guyana.

“The work of this Ministry under the dynamic leadership of two (2) Ministers who were assigned by the Cabinet, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy and Dr. Bheri Ramsaran must be lauded for its sheer volume and effectiveness in all areas of health delivery to the nation,” the CIOG President stated.

He said this includes but is not limited to the reduction of infant mortality, maternal mortality, malaria, polio, HIV and AIDS, chronic non infectious diseases and the care and protection of our children through vaccinations and nutrition programmes.

“The destruction of the Offices of both Ministers within the Ministry of Health must result in a slowdown of the work of this critical area of Government and may very well result in considerable hardship and suffering among the poor and needy in our society.”
“This crime is a crime against all Guyanese. We should all, therefore, raise our voices and speak out against this form of violence,” the CIOG President urged.
