Court hears…
A MAN bit off a piece of another’s nose during a fight over a disputed baby, a Court heard yesterday.
Oswald Rupine, 41, of Lot 55 Hadfield Street, Stabroek, Georgetown, admitted doing the biting when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm on Shane Wong.
It is alleged that, on July 14, Rupine unlawfully and maliciously inflicted the injury on Wong.
The defendant, a joiner and father of four, pleaded not guilty to the charge and said the incident occurred when Wong went to his home and tried to take away the child, whose mother is his daughter.
Defence Counsel Mohammed Zafar told the Court Rupine’s eldest daughter has a relationship with Wong and that is at the root of the problem.
Zafar said Rupine wants Wong to stop seeing the woman and alleged that the latter is not the father of the child.
The lawyer also said Rupine was struck the first blow that caused the retaliation.
The defendant was remanded to prison until July 23.
