Camptown edge GDF, GFC, Flamingo play to 1-1 draw

SUNBURST Camptown edged GDF 2-1 while GFC and Flamingo played to a 1-1 draw when action in the Georgetown Football Association’s/Cellink Plus Premier League continued on Friday night last at the Tucville ground.

Lyton Ramsey and Orlando Gilgeous found the back of GDF’s net in the 47th and 88th minutes respectively, while Jerome Richardson scored for GDF in the 53rd minute.

In the opening game of the double header card, Peter Parks scored for GFC in the 75th minute while Lester Peters secured the equaliser for Flamingo in the 77th minute.

In the feature match (GDF versus Camptown), both teams enjoyed equal ball possession during the first session but Camptown was awarded a free kick from approximately 40 metres outside the opposition’s goal and was taken by Ramsey.

The ball rebounded off GDF’s custodian Akel Clarke and Ramsey did well to slot it home.

Soon after, GDF was reduced to 10 men as their captain Selwyn Issacs received a red card.

The resulting free kick was taken by Troy Prescod within the final minute of the first session but Clarke gathered well and prevented any further goal from scoring.

From the start of the second half, GDF launched a relentless attack on their opponents and was awarded two consecutive corners withing the first minute of the session but no goal materialised.

Camptown then regrouped and retaliated.

However, the soldiers were awarded a free kick that was taken by Richardson who took a right foot shot from just outside the top left side of Camptown’s 18-yard box.

The ball swerved over a four-man wall and went past Camptown’s custodian Richie Richards, leveling the score.

With five minutes in regulation time remaining on the referee’s watch, Gilgeous slotted home the winner for Camptown who now joins GDF and Alpha United on 15 points.

However, Alpha United still lead the points standing by virtue of having a better goal difference (plus 22).

In the opening game, after a goalless first half, Parks sent GFC into the lead after receiving a pass down the middle and dribbling Flamingo’s defence before coming face to face with the opposition’s custodian and slotting home the ball.

However, two minutes later, the ball was played `big’ drawing GFC’s defence forward and with their (GFC) goal keeper off his line, Peters slotted it home.

The competition was scheduled to continue last evening at the same venue with Alpha United taking on Pele and BK International Western Tigers coming up against Fruta Conquerors.
