He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
At his residence last evening, grief stricken relatives and neighbours had gathered to discuss the tragic incident, but they had no details of the accident.
Mapp’s brother, Lawrence Mapp, 34, told the Guyana Chronicle that he received a telephone call about his sibling’s death, but did not believe it.
His worse fears were however confirmed when a relative telephoned him and added that Mapp had slammed head-on into a route 63 minibus and had succumbed to severe injuries.
His mangled motorcycle and the minibus were lodged with the Beterverwagting Police yesterday afternoon.
Mapp, a welder attached to the Mayor and City Council, was riding his CG motor cycle CC 2940 when he was killed.
He was described as a quiet, church oriented individual, who was unmarried and pleasant.
“He used to go to work, church and then back home,” a close friend recalled.
Mapp is survived by three siblings and scores of relatives.
