ALLOW me to express my satisfaction towards the government for successfully acquiring the World Bank’s approval of the new Country Assistance Strategy (CAS) for Guyana for the period of 2009-2012.
It should be noted over the years the government has worked diligently to improve the health, security and education sectors. This new strategy seeks to not only boost these sectors, but it also seeks to strengthen the country’s mobilisation strategies to combat the effects of climate change and natural disasters (the areas that create constant cause for concern).
Mr. Editor I would take this opportunity to point out that most of the scandalous slogans that are circulated to defame Guyana are generated in Guyana among Guyanese themselves. A lot of people who live in this country remain ignorant of its economic stability, which we have to a very large extent, otherwise Guyana would have never been recognised for its impressive macroeconomic activities and fiscal progress; hence, the CAS approval would have been out of Guyana’s reach.
Many Guyanese are oblivious to the fact that because of the innovative measures taken by President Jagdeo, our economy has experienced a cushioning effect of the global economic crises, and for this we should be counting our trouble.
