A post mortem was performed yesterday on the body of 22-year-old fisherman Basdeo Ramphal in the Charity cemetery in Pomeroon.

Basdeo Ramphal’s body and that of his 26-year-old cousin, Ramlall Ramphal, were found off the mouth of the Pomeroon River on Tuesday.

The post mortem on Basdeo Ramphal’s remains was performed by Dr Nehaul Singh and witnessed by Superintendent Dale Alves. The examination revealed that he died of drowning.

The bodies were later removed to Hampton Court for transportation by aircraft to Ogle, and Ramlall Ramphal was taken to Unity on the East Coast Demerara where he was buried next to his mother, while Basdeo Ramphal was taken to Hope, also on the East Coast Demerara, where he was also buried next to his mother.

The two Ramphals went missing last Thursday aboard the fishing boat ‘Sir Kegan’, along with the captain, Michael Ramlochan, 38, and 14-year-old Peter Torres.

The bodies of Ramlochan and Torres have not yet been found.

The ice-box with the fishing catch was found by another fishing vessel last Thursday.

A search for the fishermen and their boat was launched since they went missing last week, and it was during this search that the two bodies were found on Tuesday.
