GFC investigating removal of 25 acres of forest

The Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) has discovered that some 25 acres of secondary forest leased to Seeranie Ramdhanny of Canal Number Two has been removed without the necessary approval from the State Forest Permission (SFP) concession.

This was discovered during a GFC routine monitoring exercise of concessions within the Canal Number Two area on May 22, 2009.

The GFC immediately issued a cease order and is now conducting a detailed investigation into the matter.

In addition, one D6H caterpillar bulldozer, bulldozer with rake, a 315 caterpillar hymac, and tractor and trailer which were found at the location have been impounded.

GFC is requesting a status report outlining if any application was made to the Guyana Lands and Survey Commission for the establishment of an agricultural farm at this location, and if so, the dates that such application was made along with the current status of the application.
