Mambo Bar/Carib Independence anniv. dominoes set for tomorrow

TOMORROW, total prize money of $180 000 plus three trophies and medals will be up for grabs at the spacious Mambo Bar at Barr and Lamaha Streets, Kitty, which will be hosting a grand 12-team, two-round points system Independence anniversary dominoes tourney.

The Carib Beer promotion will be five for $1 000 all day. The teams that are to be in contention for top honours are: Mambo, Lighthouse Bar, Canal ‘6’, Radiator, F&H Supremes, Arsenal, International 6, Triple X, One Love, Precision, Invaders, Wild Bunch, Tone, Drifters, Crown Mining, Rangers, Guinness Bar, Strikers and Pro Six.

A committee will comprise four members who will be in charge of any ‘underhand’ or dishonest acts during the tournament.

Any team or teams found or adjudged by members of the committee to be in a fraudulent or ‘scampish’ business will be disqualified with their moneys not refundable.

Example of such acts: if any team that has no chance of winning and has been offered any money by another team to throw the match to them, both teams will be disqualified. Any other interference will be judged by the committee who will make their decisions.

The points system rules developed by dominoes enthusiast ‘Mannie’ Shew are hereby explained: for each 6 games made the team will gain 15 points, for each 5 games made the team gains 10 points, for each 4 games made the team gains 8 points, for each 3 games made the team gains 6 points, for each 2 games made the team gains 4 points, for every 1 game made the team gains 1 point and, for each love the team receives, the team loses ten points. Teams are asked to take note.

Teams will play on a first-come basis. All teams are kindly asked to walk with a good pack of playable dominoes. Dominoes will be checked before start of play for eligibility. Starting-time is 12:00 h with the usual half-hour grace period. Entrance fee is $15 000 per team.

Prizes will be allocated as follows: 1st prize one winning trophy and $75 000, 2nd prize one second-placed trophy and $60 000 while 3rd prize will be a trophy and $45 000. The player to share the 1st double love will be the recipient of $2 000.
