I am forced to register my displeasure with the Stabroek News for being blatantly discriminatory against the Government to the extent that its criticisms are becoming extremely monotonous.
Thanks to the democratic society in which we live and where press freedom exists, the Stabroek News is able to voice its disapproval about the Former President’s Bill to the point where it is becoming a reader’s nightmare.
Since the Bill was passed, that newspaper seems to be attempting to make it into something bad with its distasteful headlines and editorials in almost every issue. It is becoming extremely difficult to differentiate between the Stabroek News editorials and the statements from the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) and the Alliance for Change (AFC).
This is the level to which that newspaper has sunk in its loyalty to the opposition.
I guess my expectations of the Stabroek News were beyond reach since it continues its assignment to paint everything the Government does in a bad light.
The Former President’s Bill was done in a transparent manner on the part of the Government and just as expected, the opposition failed to see the transparency in it and tainted it to create the impression that it is something awful.
Is it any wonder that Guyana is not more developed than it is? With petty oppositions, Guyana can never move forward because the element of cooperation is sorely lacking even for something as important as ensuring that the former Presidents are taken care of when they demit office.
I am certain that if the President was a member of the PNCR or the AFC, there would have been no objection to the Bill. Members of these same opposition parties are also among those who criticize the President for soliciting aid for Guyana overseas because they see it as going around with a begging cup in hand.
Yet some of these very persons are against provision being made to ensure that our former Presidents are taken care of.
This I call hypocrisy.
