At Berbice Assizes…
COLIN Solomon (no address given) was freed of an attempted murder indictment Tuesday, after the victim, his brother-in-law Michael Hercules told Justice Diana Insanally he did not wish to proceed with the prosecution.
Hercules, 39, of Lot 17 Number 44 Village, West Coast Berbice, is married to Sharon Solomon, sister of the accused.
The mini-bus driver, led through evidence-in-chief at the Berbice Assizes by State Prosecutor Ganesh Hira, had testified that, on January 11, 2007, he gave a statement to the Police, stating that Colin Solomon stabbed him.
The witness said, after then, on May 24, 2007, he testified at the preliminary inquiry (PI) in the case.
However, according to Hercules, his wife spoke to him about the issue and he decided to give her brother-in-law a chance.
“I have not been induced or forced to arrive at this decision,” the witness swore, maintaining that he made it freely and voluntarily.
Consequent to that testimony, Justice Insanally instructed the sworn jurors to formally return a not guilty verdict in favour of Solomon and discharged him.
