Kid’s Corner

TODAY’S feature is especially for the future protectors of the ‘environment’!

In February, we celebrated World ‘Wetlands’ Day. Last week Sunday, we also celebrated World WATER Day.

Both of these days focus greatly on the importance of ‘water’ in the environment. Luckily, the ‘EARTH’ has a natural way of recycling our water over and over again. This process is known as the WATER CYCLE!

The diagram below shows the major stages of the ‘Water Cycle’. Let’s see if you can fill in the blank spaces correctly using the three terms described below.

‘Condensation’ – This is when water is transformed from a gaseous state to a liquid state.

‘Precipitation’ – This is the term given to the process whereby water returns to the surface of the earth through rainfall and other forms such as snow and hail.

‘Evaporation’ – This is when water from our oceans, rivers and lakes is heated up by the sun, turns to a gaseous state (water vapour) and rises into the atmosphere.

So, now you know how the water on Earth is being recycled.

Water is one of your most valuable ‘resources’. We must conserve and protect it by ensuring we do not waste it, and by reducing water ‘pollution’.

Here is another activity for you. Several words have been ‘highlighted’ in this article. These words (a total of TEN) are hidden in the maze of letters below. Find them and circle them – if you can! Good Luck!
