POLICE have launched an investigation following the murder of an East Coast Demerara resident, whose body was found near his home early yesterday morning.
The man was identified as Victor Persaud, 52, called “Tony”, who lived alone at Grassfield, Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.
His battered body was discovered by neighbours on the roadway with a gaping wound to his head and other parts of his body.
It also appeared as though he suffered a severe beating and bled to death on the road.
A female neighbour told the Guyana Chronicle that she woke up about 5.30 am to the incessant barking of her dogs.
She peeped out her window, heard a loud groaning and saw something outside and thought it was a horse.
She went outside and saw Persaud lying on his side and covered in blood and his broken bicycle was nearby.
A cane harvester, who was on his way to work about 6 am, said he saw the body but went on his way.
The police was eventually summoned and a hearse arrived to take the body away.
Residents said they didn’t know much about him and described him as ‘quiet’.
They said he worked as a carpenter.
