The sheer vindictiveness of Guyana’s opposition elements knows no boundaries, especially when it is directed to someone whom they feel should be on their side because of the quotient of race. If any member of the Guyanese African fraternity let good sense and patriotism prevail and choose to support the Government then that person is subjected to unimaginable vilification and victimisation by opposition elements, even to the point of being called “houseboys” and “Uncle Toms.” The current campaign of hatred directed against young Kwame McCoy on the flimsiest of arguments, with slanderous statements being made by no less than the Mayor of Georgetown, who has proffered no shred of proof to authenticate his accusations against McCoy, who is adamant that he is innocent of Green’s malicious and unfounded accusations, and his outright lie that he had fired Kwame, when the latter had instead resigned from his position to take up another appointment, should be a matter for the courts to pursue. The Child Rights Commission, it is presumed, would be exploring and formulating strategies for optimising and enhancing the potential of young children so that they can become healthy and proactive adults, who would ultimately contribute to the development of their country. So who can better empathise with and promote this objective than a young man who epitomises the quintessence of what every parent aspires for their child – responsible activism as a youth leader, ultimately eventuating into a professional serving his country with a sincerity of purpose and a commitment to honest endeavour? Kwame McCoy’s is a life full of purpose, and if he is passionate in pursuing and achieving that purpose then it is creditable, and he should be lauded instead of being castigated, but then the opposition elements in Guyana only seem to champion young men whose purpose is to kill and loot. They even accord the status of hero and freedom-fighter on thieves and murderers, even draping the nation’s Golden Arrowhead on the bodies of the deadliest of criminals. This is the yardstick whereby they measure the potential for development and growth in the nation’s youths, so someone like Kwame McCoy is alien to their concept of youth empowerment and development. For Hamilton Green to pronounce on ethics, morals, and integrity is irony beyond compare, and would be laughable if it was not such a tragic farce. This democracy that was so hard-fought-for is under threat once again by the PNC and their various mouthpieces. They have a track record of wanting to silence and suppress their critics. There are many who are silent today because they were denied their most basic right – the right to live, merely because they dared to speak out against PNC atrocities. Among them are Walter Rodney, Vincent Teekah, Father Darke, and countless others. The architects of the X-13 Plan have never relinquished their nefarious activities, although the scale has been reduced because they are currently operating on the other side of the law, albeit with the support of many maverick lawmakers. But they will not prevail to destroy this nation once more, not while there are young men like Kwame McCoy who are committed to the expansion of the development dimensions of this country, and who refuse to be intimidated by the traditional destructive tactics of the collective opposition forces in Guyana, whose only agenda is the entry into the corridors of power through the backdoor. The GHRA is once more discriminating against another decent Guyanese and denying his human rights to serve his country in whatever capacity he chooses, merely because he is a supporter of the Government of the day and the PPP/C party, both of which the GHRA opposes with a venom and vindictiveness parallelled only by the opposition forces in Guyana.
