Fallen tree damages Canter truck in Carmichael Street

HUGH Paul, 49, escaped with only lacerations on one hand when an uprooted tree struck the Canter truck he was driving in Carmichael Street, Georgetown, yesterday morning.

He told reporters, after the accident, that he managed to exit the vehicle by jumping through a window before the impact.

Despite his hand being injured, he said he was thankful not to have been trapped inside in the truck.

The mishap occurred about 08:30h as he was on his way to Lamaha Street, also in the city. He heard horns of other passing vehicles honking but did not observe anything unusual.

However, as he ventured into Carmichael Street, the large fallen tree slammed into the cab of his GGG 3194 and stopped it moving.

Paul was alone at the time but his employer, businessman Mohamed Hack arrived on the scene shortly after to survey the damage.

Hack, too, was grateful that Paul was not seriously hurt but pondered who will compensate him for the damages to the $3.7M truck.
