ACTING British High Commissioner Mr. Simon Bond said he was saddened to hear the news of the death of former President Janet Jagan and is extending his sincere condolences to Mrs. Jagan’s family, the Government and people of Guyana. He said in a press statement that Mrs. Jagan’s tireless and lifelong service and commitment to the people, politics and Government of Guyana is well known. He said her contribution to Guyana’s social and economic development has been enormous and she will be greatly missed in Guyana and beyond. Vincent Alexander appointed UG’s Registrar (USE FILE photo of Alexander) Mr. VINCENT ALEXANDER, former Deputy Registrar of the University of Guyana (UG), has been appointed Registrar with effect from April 01, 2009. Mr. Alexander brings to the post a wealth of experience and knowledge of the operations of the University, having worked at both the junior and senior administrative level and also the academic level of the institution. The new Registrar joined the academic staff of the University of Guyana in 1988 as Research-Fellow/Lecturer in the Institute of Development Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences. He served as Dean of the faculty from 1993 to 1994. In 1994 Mr. Alexander was appointed the first Deputy Registrar of UG, a post he held until his present appointment. He is the recipient of numerous awards, among them the Twenty-Year Long Service Award in 2008 and the 40th Anniversary Award for Meritorious Service to the University of Guyana in 2003. Mr. Alexander’s ability and application in the field of education has been recognised and lauded both locally and abroad. He has demonstrated commitment to the growth and development of the University and is at present, overseeing the reorganisation of the Registry, which on completion, is expected to improve the delivery of the services offered in the Division. The University staffers and students congratulate Mr. Vincent Alexander on his recent appointment as Registrar, and wish him well. (UG release)
