A FORTY-nine-year-old man, who exposed his penis to his 20-year-old married neighbour, was sentenced to nine months imprisonment, by Magistrate Geeta Chandan Edmond Persid on Tuesday.

The sentence was imposed on Mannichand Mulkram, at New Amsterdam Court, where he had, initially, denied that he committed the offence last January 20, at Lot ‘B’ Angoy’s Avenue, on the outskirts of New Amsterdam.

The prisoner changed his plea to guilty after the testimony of Sheyon Young, the virtual complainant.

The witness told the Court she was mopping her stairs when Mulkram, who was under his house, called her name and, after showing her a kiss, held his genital organ and masturbated.

The mother said she rebuked him for being “a wicked big man” before telephoning his nephew with whom he lived.

The nephew also remonstrated with his uncle who refuted the accusation prior to a report being made to the Police, Young said.

Mulkram pleaded for a light sentence, claiming he has learnt his lesson but the magistrate reminded him that neighbours are sacred and closest to other persons.

“You are a grown man, not a teenager. You, probably, have grandchildren. Would you have liked someone to do this to them?”, the magistrate asked and admonished the tearful prisoner: “You have disgraced your relatives with this act. I hope, during your period of incarceration, you reflect on your ways.”
