I watch with growing horror as Israel blockaded Gaza denying its 1.5 million inhabitants the most basic supplies. Then proceeded to bomb them killing over 400 civilians, then invaded the territory causing more death destruction and suffering and now attacking schools being used as shelters under the UN flag. All this is amid a deafening silence from regional governments.
I call on the Jagdeo administration to take a public position in condemnation of this massacre immediately. At the very least our Consular Representative should be recalled for consultations.

Editor’s note – President Jagdeo issued a statement condemning the attacks on Gaza. This newspaper carried the story on pages one and two on Wednesday January 7, 2009, under the headline: “Guyana condemns atrocities perpetrated against Palestinians – President Jagdeo.”
