Water retention not as bad as it was in 2005

I LIVE in the Dochfour area on the East Coast of Demerara, and the water has been receding. About a week ago, the area was visited by Ministers and even the President who had promised that the situation would improve.

As was promised, the situation did improve, since water is now receding from the land. An additional pump was put in and a dam was dug to allow for better drainage in the area. The drains as well as the canals were excavated to ensure the water could flow.

Many areas like Dochfour had experienced the impact of heavy rainfall, which had resulted in flooding in these communities.

I had also learnt that the amount of rainfall surpassed that of the 2005 period. As I look at the situation today, it is evident that investments were made in the drainage and irrigation systems. What was seen in 2005 has not been seen in this season.

I could remember how long the water on the East Coast of Demerara took to drain off the land in 2005.

As a farmer, I wish to commend the government for a job well done!
