Police give relatives remains of disappeared man

After inconclusive autopsy…
POLICE yesterday handed over, to relatives for burial, the remains of Leo Alleyne, following an inconclusive post mortem examination.

The unsuccessful autopsy was blamed on the advanced state of decomposition which made it difficult for the pathologist to determine the cause of death.

The corpse of Alleyne, 46, of Lot 56 Church Street, Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara, was discovered on Sunday morning by a resident who went in search of cows in the backlands of the village.

Alleyne had been watching television but left home on the evening of November 21, after his wife and children retired to bed about 10.20 pm.

Several search parties ventured out to find the disappeared man who had expressed frustration at being unemployed.

Police said the discovery of the body, among some bushes, was made at about 7.30 am and a cement sling tied to a limb in a tree and a bottle suspected to contain a poisonous liquid were next to it.

Alleyne’s wife had reported him missing to the Police and other people had joined relatives in scouring the backlands in futile searches for him. (Michel Outridge)
