Adapting to climate change calls for proper garbage disposal

THREE years ago, Guyana experienced what would have been one of the worst flooding ever in its history.

Now that the government has responded to the 2005 flood by investing millions of dollars to ensure adequate pumps and good drainage are available, it is important to remember that the excess rainfall is due to climate change and activities such as dumping garbage has led to the blockage of drains restricting the water flow and causing water-borne diseases.

Now that the drainage system is more prepared than it was in 2005, I hope Guyanese can ensure that garbage is being disposed of in a proper manner.
