Laughter is always the best medicine

IT was interesting to see the comments by Mr. Suseran on the quality of comedic endeavours on Guyana’s television.

I am glad Mr. Suseran brought this up and I am happy that someone wants humour (local) raised to a higher level.

We have many humorous individuals who would love to do exactly this, especially on television, and Mr. Suseran also said that these humorous programmes should be worked on with enough time and deliberate attention to get the desired and effective result of causing hilarious and side-splitting-till-you-cry laughter.

The likes of “STRETCHED OUT MAGAZINE”, “THIS IS WE”, “SUGAR CANE SANTA” and “NO BIG THING” have all suffered the very limited, strangled, gun-to-your-head almost stifling schedule to produce what should be great comedy for television.

Television studio time is also a costly factor which may contribute to the hurried, hobbling together of a series of what could be “crack you up” humour.

I sincerely believe that our humourists can produce far better quality humour for television and the NCN could play a significant role here.

Laughter is always the best medicine and is all consuming at any time of the year, even Christmas time and crosses all barriers.

It is time that our humourists get to showcase the hidden and often times suppressed God-given comedic talents and given a platform to showcase themselves and again NCN could be of great help here.

Being funny is not a cut and dried exercise. It is a process of thoughtful considerations, studied and smooth delivery which will produce what we all need at the end of any day…a good laugh!
