PRIME MINISTER Moses Nagamootoo has implored youths to take their education seriously, advising that it would provide them the wherewithal to “soar like kites” in the push to advance themselves in life.He issued the charge to a gathering at the Shieldstown Abundant Life Assembly, West Berbice, yesterday
The Prime Minister was accompanied by his wife, Sita Nagamootoo, and with Easter around the corner, they distributed kites to children.
Using the theme of The Resurrection, Prime Minister Nagamootoo explained that all should aspire to reach the sky, “to fly on the wings of our dreams.”
He compared the twine attached to Easter kites to education and said that children could achieve great heights with better education.
Taking the congregation back in time, Prime Minister Nagamootoo noted that during 1967 to1970, he was a teacher in West Berbice, and would bicycle from Ithaca to Bush Lot to encourage parents to send their children to high school.
One of those children was the father of Pastor Chaitram (only name given), who invited the Prime Minister to his Church. His father Bharrat (only name given), also a priest, attended the high school where Mr. Nagamootoo taught.
Impressed by the talent of children who performed during a cultural show, the Prime Minister said other churches should take a leaf out of the book of the Shieldstown Abundant Life Assembly.
The Assembly, he said was moulding the new generation of singers, dancers, musicians.
The children recited poetry, sang and danced during the service.
And responding to an appeal for financial assistance from the church, the Prime Minister pledged $150,000 towards new rest room facilities and the fencing of its compound.
