GUYANA women’s team departed yesterday for Trinidad and Tobago to participate in the West Indies Cricket Board Regional Super50 tournament which begins on Thursday, August 13. Guyana finished as runners-up to Jamaica in the tournament last year in Dominica.President of Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), Drubahadur, at a meeting with the ladies on Sunday, pointed out that they are not short on talent and he is looking forward to see them bring home the title this year.
He added that the Women did an excellent job in the last two years reaching the semi-finals and final and further noted that despite the feeling of being pressured, the Guyanese should approach the tournament match by match, and be focused while trying to have fun.
Drubahadur wished the players a safe and successful tournament, noting that they should feel happy and privileged to represent Guyana. He assured the players that GCB is confident that they will come back a victorious team.
Chairman of the Senior Selection Panel, Rayon Griffith, wished the ladies a successful tournament while urging them to play competitive and professional cricket.
Guyana will be competing against Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, North Windward Islands and South Windward Islands.
Each of the teams will play the other once in a round-robin format where the top two teams on the points table after this round will contest the final on Sunday, August 16.
Guyana squad reads: Tremayne Smartt (captain), Erva Giddings, Subrina Munroe, Melanie Henry, Shamaine Campbelle (vice-captain), Katana Mentore, Mandy Mangru, Hasena Mohamed, Kavita Yadram, Akaze Thompson, Lashuna Toussaint, Heema Singh, Sheneta Grimmond, and Plaffiana Millington.
The manager is Carol Nurse and the coach is Andre Percival.
