Weather has last say in start of Mayor’s Cup football tournament

WITH the prevailing inclement weather conditions, football fans and participating teams will have to hope that the weather improves so that the 22nd Annual Mayor’s Cup Football tournament can kick-off tomorrow.According to tournament coordinator Lennox Arthur, the tournament which should have started last Sunday is scheduled to get underway tomorrow with a double-header at the Victoria ground, East Coast Demerara, but if the rain continues into tomorrow he will be forced to reschedule the start once again.
The two matches tomorrow, once weather permits, will see Mahaica tackle Eagles United of Linden from 18:00hrs and BV/Triumph take on Milerock of Linden from 20:00hrs.
The tournament is scheduled to continue on Friday at the same venue with another double-header that brings together Golden Grove and Grove Hi Tech from 18:00hrs and Ann’s Grove versus Buxton Bakewell from 20:00hrs.
The winning team of the tournament will receive $700 000 while the second-, third- and fourth-place teams will earn $300 000, $200 000 and $100 000 respectively.
